Super - Cool

If you live in the upper Midwest, you may have broke out the long - johns and space heaters for the unseasonably cool weather is upon us.

Today's high is supposed to be 69 and the overnight low around 50.

It's like winter in July as weather forecasters are gleefully alerting us to the potential for a new record low maximum temperature today.

Oh, the horror!

I'll be surprised if summer school isn't cancelled tomorrow with all these "chilly" temperatures.

Frankly, cool weather like this is what I really love about living in Wisconsin again.  A daytime high in the low 70s sounds perfect to me, and with low temperatures dipping into the low 50s and maybe upper 40s will cool things out in our homes and provide excellent sleeping weather.

Years and years ago, I suspect it would have been in the summer of 1980 or 81, our family went north for a week in a cabin near Eagle River, Wisconsin.  I believe it was August.

Since it was August, we took summer clothing with us.  That was a big mistake when we woke one morning to frost on the ground and temperatures in the 30s.

That was cold.  I remember our family piling into the car and heading into town to shop for jeans and sweatshirts.

Warm clothes in hand, we enjoyed the rest of our week on the water and didn't have to drill holes in the ice once!

If there are guests in our state this week to enjoy the outdoors or camping in the great outdoors, I hope they pack some long underwear or at least some cash for long pants and sweaters.

For the rest of us, it would seem to me we are used to all that we may have to live with this week.

We usually call it October!
