Filled with Joy

The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.

Psalm 126: 3

It's about perspective.

When asked about our day, we might say it was OK, or not bad, or that we are still standing.

My thoughts frequently are toward the things that didn't go so good or where I fell short of my expectations.

Just simmering in my own juices about the things that didn't happen or high hopes that were not met can be debilitating.  Sometimes, the things that don't happen are great, we just are not aware of them.

It's easy to be upset by the key you left on the kitchen counter that require turning back for home to pick them up.  But that extra trip kept you from the intersection where a wayward driver would have hit your car.  The lack of something is a great thing.

Little things can be great for us - we just might not see it at the time.  There are those happenstance introductions that lead to a wonderful friendship.  There series of circumstances that when we look back through our life, add up to some pretty incredible gifts.  Much of that comes from how we look back, and what catches our attention.

Yearning for things beyond our grasp can lead us to miss the joy in our lives.  We can pray and hope for dreams to be realized, and treasure the moments and memories that spark those thoughts.

Let's think about our health; our jobs (even on the bad days); our friends and families.

If all we see are the negatives then we need to look harder.  The blessings are there waiting for you to notice.

My two times unemployed were like that - not times I'd like to repeat - but times that created change ultimately for the better and served to shape me in ways that only a loving God was aware of while they were happening.

There's no denying we each endure horrible, rotten, let's forget about it kind of days.  But, I suspect that if we analyze some of those days that slip right by us - we will see some pretty great things.

And then, go ahead, be filled with joy!
