Summertime - Summertime

Good Morning!  Happy summer!

Carefree days at the beach...

Hot dogs and Pepsi

Fireworks

Long walks in the evening

Early morning bike rides

The sun came up at 5:18 Central Time this morning and won't go down until 8:41 this evening.

That's 15 hours, 22 minutes, and 21 seconds of sunshine - plus at least a half-hour either way of dawn and dusk - now that's a good long day.

Summer officially started at 5:51 today - and thus begins the long walk in the sun that becomes slightly shorter distances until late December when Winter Solstice reclaims the night.

Summer is...

Glasses of lemonade
clanking ice cubes make the glass sweat

Cannonballs create Richter scale splash-downs
A quiet walk hand in hand around a lake
Ice cream cones melt faster than you can lick
Fireflies illuminating dark skies and young imagination
Flashes of lightening - Peals of thunder
          Gully-washing rain
Sweet corn
Picnics.

In younger days, summer meant possibilities, anything could happen in summer.  It could be the year you make the hit that wins the game - or make it to 100 before falling off the pogo stick (kids, you may have to ask your parents what that is).  It might be the first time in a long time you catch a movie at the Drive In; or eat at a Drive Inn.

Summer is time for Root Beer in a frosted mug
Summer is the buzz of Bees gathering nectar
Summer is a long ride on smooth asphalt
Summer is the Beach Boys on the radio

Summer was two weeks at Grandpa & Grandmas
Summer was doughnuts for breakfast
Summer was a worm, bobber, and bamboo pole
Summer was sleeping with open windows

Summer can be a reunion
Summer can be the sun setting into the lake
Summer can be a flashing sparkler in the dark
Summer can be... anything you dream.

Enjoy the season - be safe.
