Be A Weed

There is something to be said for weeds.

They may not look so great after a while and they can cause great anguish to the avid gardener/landscaper.

But, on the other hand, the bright rays of a yellow dandelion display a plucky attitude of blooming where planted and looking to spread its shiny face wherever it can.

Maybe you think these little flowers should be dug, plucked, and drugged out of existence.  You might even enjoy some temporary victories.

Just wait, they will be back.  The seeds, born on the breeze, will find their way back to your pool table quality field and send its root deep into the soil.

It is one of the first wildflowers of the season.  Who hasn't picked a bunch for their mom or teacher during elementary school?  As I recall, they don't last long once removed from the source of its food and water and quickly droop away.

Little heads of yellow might only be around a short time.  They may only make us smile when we see them in the neighbor's yard, not ours.

Yet a very short time after blooming, they are gone.  Just some dandelion leaves left behind once the lollipop of seeds gets blown away to establish a new crop.  There are plenty of seeds, many will find a place to grow.

In the expanse of time, we are not around long either, four score and ten is a good long life, but it's like a minute in the entire scheme of things.

Let's bloom while we can, brighten lives by reflecting the sun and before we go, leaving little parts of ourselves to be planted in the world around us.

A little plucky, can-do attitude won't hurt either.... here's to the weeds... overlooked and under appreciated but able to lift spirits and smiles when its their time to bloom.
