A Second Home

It would seem to me that a one bedroom apartment would be just adequate for one family, but we have house guests.

Or, should I say another family has moved in on the property.

Two House Finches showed up, pulled the ReMax Realty sign out of the hanging pot of Begonias and are settling in to make it a family home.

Several trips have been made to the local Menard's Home Improvement Store as evidenced by the nicely laminated pieces of straw and small sticks they continue to deliver inside the plant.

I was going to look more closely, but after seeing a sign alerting passers-by to the ADT Home Security System, it seemed prudent to use the zoom lens.

These are loud neighbors, too.

If you haven't noticed these House, or Red, Finches you may have heard their loud warble announcing their presence and the arrival of the sun's first rays around 5 each morning.

We apparently missed including the quiet clause in the contract they chicken-scratched at closing.

The head of the nest, that would be mother bird, has asked to continue watering the greenery surrounding their home as it provides ideal cover for raising a small brood.  But, she did ask we be careful before dumping the contents of a 32 ounce glass into their living room.

The pair looked the place over for a few days before moving in, apparently alerted by the Blue Jay who had been showing the new home to some Robins.

For that I'm thankful, since everyone knows those Robins love their rock-n-roll.

The father sent a tweet about the new place to friends and family and left a little note behind indicating a house warming is to be forth-coming.

It could be fun to get to know them, and give my alarm clock a rest for a while.  I suspect when and if they add to the family that we might lose all access rights to our backyard.
