It's Melting!

After what seems a very long winter - the snow is starting to fade away.

Much of it remains around here, but quite a few of the large piles have gotten smaller and some tufts and patches of brown grass are starting to make themselves seen again.

Just before we get too comfortable with what seems like the "end" of winter, it's not over yet.

I recall measurable snow in May and a killing frost on Father's Day within the last 25 years here in Wisconsin.  Sure, those things seem different since they don't hang around for very long.

Little indications are showing us a trend toward the next season.  The shoots of daffodils; the return of song birds (although I've not seen a Robin yet); and even the air smells more like earth coming to life.

Yet, before it goes completely we will get a few going away presents.  An Alberta Clipper snow storm.  Freezing rain or drizzle.  Maybe even some more sub-freezing temperatures.

Winter is on it's last legs for this seasonal fight.  I can sense something new just days away.

It's coming - no matter what it feels like outside.
