Angling to Fish

In some places you can already get your boat in the water and look for fish.

Bundling up is a good idea, even on the warmer days around here.

The ice is still pretty thick on most lakes around here too, so ice fishing isn't over yet.

Over the weekend I read that experts expect ice to remain in place over Lake Mendota until the middle of April.  Wow.

The eagles have more open water to cruise looking for food as the rivers have more quickly sent their ice downstream.

Opening day for trout fishing was actually a few weeks ago, and I suspect some hearty anglers were out there fly-fishing.  Don't you think the fish would know it is too cold for flies?

I've not been fishing in some time, and gave away all my fishing gear, but the idea of fishing can occasionally still be compelling.

Sitting on pier, along a bank, or in a boat... gazing out at a red and white bobber bouncing up and down along with each wave's ripple.

Maybe there is a sensation of a pull on the line, or extra rings suddenly emanating from the float above the hook.

Then, down it goes!  You react by pulling back toward you, hoping to hook the fish.  A fresh fish shore lunch could taste awful good about now.  Sizzling in light breading in frying pan for supper... fried potatoes in the skillet with some buttered bread and a favorite beverage to wash it down.

Grab some worms - some minnows - let's go fishing!
