Important Instructions

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus
1 Thessalonians 5: 16 - 18

The middle of a long winter can be a good time to take stock.

It seems to have been an ice cold journey through a long tunnel that seemed without end.

We can rejoice in the snow and cold that allows the soil to rest until spring.

The conditions seem difficult.  The car won't start if the thermometer drops below zero.  Little things take more time and effort.

But rejoice in the feeling of being alive as the cold snaps you awake each morning to get your attention.

A family from church is spending a lot of time at the hospital this week with their young daughter and learned the little one is in a battle with cancer.

Despite the difficult days, though, the parents are sharing their feelings with friends, family, and their church family and what comes through is their rejoicing and thanksgiving for the small victories.

Thanking God for a better prognosis than what seemed to be barreling toward them just a week ago and confident in God's guidance, comfort, and protection through whatever comes their way.  The family and all who know them or their journey are praying without ceasing.

In whatever our circumstance - extreme cold or weather; loneliness; grief; or the worry and concern for a child's illness - Paul's instructions for the Christians in Thessaloniki are good for each of us today.

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; and in everything give thanks - for this is God's will for us in Christ Jesus.
