The Blue Spoon

In Prairie du Sac on the main street through town (not necessarily Main Street) sits the Blue Spoon Cafe.

Prairie du Sac is the headquarters and home of Culver's.  Culver's opened in 1984 in the sister city of Sauk City.

Now there are more than 450 Culver's around the country.

Back home, there is a one-of-a-kind place named for the little blue utensil used in their restaurants to eat that custard.
They are blue.

It's not a fast food place.  The menu includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  I enjoyed the Manhattan Clam Chowder for lunch when I visited the first time.

The soup was good and something unlike what I've enjoyed in quick serve restaurants previously.

The back dining room of the Blue Spoon overlooks the Wisconsin River and during lunch an immature Bald Eagle flew up to roost in a branch at eye level.

The bird was looking for lunch while I was enjoying mine.

At the end of lunch, Craig Culver - one of the founders of the place (along with his wife and parents) - was making the rounds in the dining room saying hello and thanking guests for coming.

The Blue Spoon and Culver's aren't the kind of places I usually write about, but Culver's is a Wisconsin-born product which makes Cheeseheads like me feel a tug of loyalty for them and pride in their success.
They are different, in my opinion, because of how they prepare the food and how it is served.  In the best examples of the stores, there is personality behind the counter and gracious customer service serving a good meal.

The Blue Spoon fits it's surroundings - in an older building with wood floors and marble counter.

Culver's cooks each butter-burger to order and makes the custard in each store each day.

The best part of the visit to the Blue Spoon, the topper, is a dish of their gelato!  Creamy vanilla with chards of shaved chocolate... wow, it was very yummy eating it with a blue spoon.

I enjoyed mine so much I nearly forgot to take a picture.
