Keep Plugging

“You have ups and downs. The people that persevere are the ones who can fight through that, take the bumps and bruises and keep going.

“There’s going to be times when you’re struggling. There’s going to be times when you feel like you’re on top of the world.

“If you can balance those things and stay level headed and keep plugging away things are going to work for you.”

It's an astute observation.

A little surprising perhaps that it comes from a college basketball player.

Sam Dekker, a sophomore forward for the University of Wisconsin basketball team made the comment when asked about the adversity of two consecutive losses that became three before beating Purdue last Saturday.

As a Badger fan, I found the mature observation to be interesting as fans were losing their heads over a couple of losses following a 16 game winning streak to start the season.  But, I also liked it because Sam comes from a Lutheran High School, similar to the environment I worked in Indianapolis, although his school was in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Whatever and wherever our playing field is, it would do us well to keep plugging away.

There will be a day or two, maybe a week, where things don't go our way.  Take the slings and arrows, the bumps and bruises, and move along.  Keep your head up, learn from the mistakes, and forge ahead.

When things succeed and everything seems to be coming up roses; a little humility is in order and recognition for the folks surrounding you who helped you reach the goal.

It wouldn't hurt to check your road map to be sure you are on the correct course.  Because if you just keep on plugging in the wrong direction, all the effort and perseverance in the world won't get you there.

Whatever you are doing today, wherever you are heading - keep at it; keep on plugging.  Check your map, ask for guidance, and move ahead.

As for the Badgers, they play on their home court against Northwestern tonight, an opportunity for them to continue their course correction.
