My guess is that everyone has a Fibber McGee closet. (Alright, kids try Goodsearch to figure out who that is and help your favorite charity at the same time. And no, while I listened to the adventures of Fibber McGee it wasn't as a first run series.)
Junk drawer or a walk-in storage closet that became a catch-all, we just have lots of stuff. Stuff you really can't imagine throwing away, but don't want to put on out.
In the many moves we've made over the years, we've been forced into some down-sizing. Our 3,000 square foot home in Augusta was replaced with a 1,500 square foot home in Indianapolis. Then a 1,300 square foot apartment, and after a short time in a 517 square foot cubby - hole when we first moved to Madison, we now have about 1,100 square feet of room.
Lucky for us, there is a storage closet under the building and a generous sized walk-in closet in the apartment's loft, and it's a good thing we have them because we come close to filling them.
Yet, I think all this moving has been a good thing. In my current job I meet with many people who moved onto our campus from the homes they lived in most of their lives. In some cases, there was 30, 40, and even 50 years of accumulated memories in boxes, bags, and Rubber Maid containers.
All these moves have forced to get make decisions about what to give-away, what to keep, and what to procrastinate making a decision over.
We tore into the closet above over the weekend... and storage war is a good term for what we did. I think the stuff won! But, we'll live to fight another day.
If you don't tear into it once in a while, it's almost like the stuff multiplies - so keep an eye on it... and good luck!
