Patriot Day

Twelve years ago - our lives changed.

Realistically, our lives are changed many times every year, and sometimes we don't even notice the consequence or the cause until much later.

But 9/11 was one of those moments that changed our lives in many ways.

Traveling, especially by air, is dramatically different.

Attending events, from ballgames to political rallies, require us to be "patted" down or walk through a metal detector or one of those slightly creepy devices that can see through your clothes.

Our sense of safety and confidence in going about our daily lives has been altered.

The changes continue.

Newtown.  Boston.  Aurora.

Maybe knowing of the insecurity we are surrounded by is a good thing.

If, it makes us hold those we love a little tighter and say "I love you," more frequently, it is.

If, it has also sent us to our knees to look to the hills from whence comes our help - even better.

As we recall the horrible events of 12 years ago and the aftershocks that have sent us reeling since then - let's also pause to give thanks to God for the men and women serving our country and for being our ultimate safety net.
