We've had a lot of rain around these parts this past week - and just five miles into the ride stood a barricade about high water on the trail.
Fortunately, it had receded to only 2 - 3"and I was able to sail right through it.
An awesome day to ride with perfect blue skies, temperatures in the 70s, and plenty of company along the ride.

The idea was to ride from home to Verona and pedal down the Military Ridge trail to Dodgeville, then head south to Mineral Point. Adding to the fun was the opportunity to ride alongside a couple of bikers along the way - both, it turned out, with connections to Oakwood Village.

The conversation about the trail, bikes, and backgrounds made the miles pass under our wheels in a hurry and reminded me about one of the many things I enjoy on organized rides - the happenstance meetings with brand new people and interesting stories.
Soon enough, we were at the end of the line in Dodgeville (most famous as the home of Land's End clothing), where I turned south in search of a new trail and the route to Mineral Point.

3:51 after I started, it was time to stop - 52 miles away from home - and time to eat!
Many small towns can roll up the sidewalks on Sundays, so it was a nice surprise to find a friendly cafe that looked and tasted the part as if it had materialized from a movie set.

The BLT, Mountain Dew, and scrumptious Chocolate Malt (with extra malted) hit the spot and then some! Toss in their own potato chips and it was a perfect meal at the end of the trail.
Not sure where the next long ride will take me, but can't wait to (as the song says) get back on the road again.
Happy Riding!
