Summertime!

It arrived today - at 12:04 a.m. Central Daylight Time - the Summer Solstice.

On it's own vacation - the sun is the farthest it can get to the north of the equator - over the Tropic of Cancer.

Both yesterday and today - those of us in Madison will bask in 15 hours, 22 minutes, and 21 seconds of daylight.

That's 3 seconds more than Wednesday and 4 seconds more than we'll have tomorrow.  Then it drops off another 8 seconds on the 23rd - yep, it's a quick march to winter in these parts.

My friends in Indianapolis will have much earlier bedtimes - their daylight is only 14:59:26 - giving us 23.05 minutes more.  No doubt, my Indy friends are jealous of this development.  Of course, those fortunate enough to live above the Arctic Circle are celebrating with no sunset at all these two days.

Be sure to enjoy the days of summer - try a cook out, play catch, hide-n-seek, an early bike ride, or a long walk through a park.  Bottle some memories and maybe even some warm air and sunshine - come December you will be glad you did.

Or take to heart the words of early 20th Century philanthropist and banker, John Lubbock:
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes
on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.
