Speed Bump!

Riding along a bike trail affords the rider the opportunity to enjoy the passing scenery.

There are few roads to cross.  Not much traffic unless crossing a road or highway.  Most of the time there aren't even very many other people on bikes.

Riding on crushed limestone provides some variables - loose rocks, rough spots, and puddles after the rainy season.

All of those are manageable.  Unless you are not ready for them.

It seems about the time I notice a vivid Cardinal or Bluebird and follow it's flight a ways - then I ride over a big rock, branch, heavy and loose sand, or cross over a gopher (chipmunk) hole right there in my path.

B-BUMP!

It's over before you know what happens and it's too late to slow down.

Hit one and you start keeping at least one eye on the trail in front of the bike.  The bump wakes you up.

We all have speed bumps in life - it could be the morning you can't find the car keys or that second after hitting 'send' when you realize you hit 'reply all.'  Then comes a rush of adrenalin fueled panic wondering what to do now and how to handle whatever the fallout might come your way.

The speed bumps we see coming we can prepare for at least mentally - unfortunately - our moments of growth probably come more from the unseen bumps in our road that wake us up in a sweat-drenched clothes.

Stop - take a breath - say a prayer - and move ahead.  No one said life would be easy.  To quote one movie I liked, 'it's the hard that makes it great.'
