Which Would You Prefer?

In the long winter of...

... waiting for spring
... waiting for the bike to be ready
... enjoying snowflake after flake pile on top of each other in a mad re-creation natural version of 'king of the hill'
... of thanks for natural gas heat

I'm wondering which would you prefer?

Paper or plastic?

Plastic is handy with it's built-in handles and serves as a great household can liner, but too many blow around our land sticking on tree limbs like air socks.

Paper is neatly folded and put away until it's next use - did you use them as book covers back in school?  I can't imagine doing that with a plastic bag.

Winter or spring?

Winter is the season of afternoon naps; cozying under a hand-made quilt; wrapping cold hands around a mug of hot chocolate; seeing your breath; and watching as nature erases the traces of the last growing season while preparing for the next one.

It's also cars that don't start; icy walks and roadways; school delays (that's a downer from parent perspectives, right?); and days so cold the inside of your nose freezes.

Spring is the promise of new; greens and other brilliant colors that grab your breath from your lungs; the smell of freshly turned soil prepared for planting; the sound of water dripping; the chirping of birds looking for a date; and a leisurely walk to your car after walk basking in the glow of a gorgeous sunset.

Spring is also the relentless raking of leaves that you thought you raked last fall; roto-tilling and spading ground to plant flower and vegetable seeds and slips;  it's a runny allergic nose; it's grass that needs to be cut and bushes that need trimming; and it's countless trips to the store for grass seed, fertilizer, and weed-killer.

So which would you prefer?

Why not both?

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2

Indeed, there is a time for everything and a season (whether winter or spring or summer or fall) for every activity under the heavens... to God be the Glory no matter the weather and whether we toil or take it easy.
