Water Over the...

It's below normal temperatures, almost 10 degrees below normal.  A year ago, in these parts, it was 50 degrees warmer than it is now!

Neither situation sounds good - and while the causes seem to be endlessly debated with no real outcome - it seems on some level that this is water over the dam.

Time to stop arguing who left the water running with the plug in the drain and start bailing.

When it comes to global warming and climate change, I have an opinion, but certainly don't have the knowledge as to whether, in fact, the earth is warming up.

But does it matter?

While we are commanded in Genesis to take care of the earth - it seems by any measure we have a failing grade.

On a very small scale... whether you or I recycle, or lower our thermostat, or drive to conserve fuel makes not one speck of difference.  But, if you and I do those things, and a few others join in with us, then more, and more after that - it could change the world.

In World War II our grandparents scoured their land for scrap metal and rubber that was used as raw materials for the industrial drive that helped win the war.  Those tin cans and bike tires didn't become the mountain of metal and rubber, but every bit adds up.

Let's face it - while we can't change the world - we can make a difference in the spaces of the world we inhabit.

It's like the familiar story of the man walking the beach.  It was littered with hundreds of starfish washed up on the land.  He would stoop, pick one up, and toss back into the ocean.  A passerby stopped him, asking what he was doing, and pointing out the man couldn't possibly help all the stranded and dying fish.  The beach walker replied, 'I can help this one.'
