La Brioche Breakfast

A neat thing about Madison is the variety of places to eat.  So yesterday, we tried a very nice place off University Avenue called La Brioche.

Brioche is french for a light-textured bread made from eggs, butter, flour, and yeast formed into a roll or bun.  In Madison, it can also be the definition of a classy place to meet to eat.

In addition to an exquisite menu, they provide information about the restaurant at each table and explain their no cellphone, no computer rules.
It's part of the atmosphere - just as the hope the feng shui provides a good environment and set up their dining rooms to provide three different areas of 'chi' - low chi (the peaceful area where we sat - pictured below), a medium chi (some 'busy'ness and noise), and high chi (at the front of the store, near the parking lot with lots of to-go customers).

I'm not sure about all that - but it was a great place to sit down for a peaceful breakfast in an unhurried setting.

My breakfast featured a Chocolate Croissant with steamed milk flavored with caramel.  This is the only place I've ever ordered steamed milk - and it is surprising delicious.  It reminded me of the Hot Chocolate my mom prepared for me as a kid.  She would put a small pot of milk on the stove warming it up and then mixing in the Nestle Quik.

The Croissant unveiled a delightful chocolate taste - kind of like a mellow candy bar wrapped inside buttery bread.  What a neat way to start the day!

La Brioche makes their own pastry and off the dining room provides a window into their work - if you look close you can see a layer cake on the counter.

It's been a while since I left a breakfast 'joint' feeling like I had just enjoyed a calm and relaxing time around a table... it won't be the last.

Bon Appetit!
