Hail to the Badgers! Free Ice Cream!

Thank you to the Badger Women's Hockey Team for the free ice cream I get to enjoy at Culver's later today.

By virtue of beating St. Cloud State and scoring 5 goals in their game Friday night - Culver's comes through with a free cone or dish of their awesome custard.  Truly a 'double dip' worth enjoying!

It was game one in a best of three first round match in the WCHA playoffs, and Bucky left no doubt which was the better team.
It was fun - a warm and loud crowd, a great sounding Pep Band, and some popcorn - for a low, low price - who could beat it?

You could read about the game elsewhere, so let me tell you what I noticed.

Fast athletes who mixed pinpoint passes and strong play over three periods without slowing down as each line came over the boards.

A crowd with young kids - boys and girls - cheering for their team and visualizing themselves on the ice someday wearing the Cardinal Red and White.  Men and women, families, college and high school students were there too.  A low ticket price of $5 and consistent entertainment through the evening made it a great value and a fun night.

The women's hockey team has won four National Titles in the short time women's hockey has been an NCAA sport, and while this year has been difficult with injury setbacks, the team skates straight ahead, fighting through checks, and heading straight toward the goal.

This was just my second women's hockey game - both this season - and I'm impressed.  Come next season, there will be more games saved on my calendar.  From the opening face-off to the team's send-off salute to the fans at center ice to the sportsman-like handshake at game's end... there is a lot to like about women's hockey.

Go Badgers!  And now, if you will please excuse me, I need to head to Culver's to collect on the ice cream.
