Today is one of the most fun days of the year.

Well, it used to be a highlight of my year when our boys lived at home.

Most kids love to play games with their parents at bedtime - trying to stall and prolong the nightly good night kisses and trudges off to bed.

Just once a year though, I had a government endorsed way to beat the system.

I would get up first on the Saturday before Daylight Savings Time began and move around the house room to room, quietly advancing each clock one hour.

Later, when they got up, the boys thought nothing of it as the clock read 9am while watching their regular 8am cartoons.

Yet, as much fun as that was... it was crucial not to blow the gag.  For when the clock reached 8pm and it was time for bed - it was still only 7, but off they went to bed.

The primary reward, as any parent knows, is the golden hour of quiet - sitting quietly watching 'our' programs, or listening to a favorite radio program, reading a book, or something else.  Mostly, it was fun year after year to make time move ahead.

Of course, now that they are gone - it would be nice to turn back the clock just a little bit.
