Unintended Consequences

In our most recent snowstorm, I noticed the stoplights.

Well, I should say I didn't notice them.

They were difficult to see because they were covered with snow.

Madison, like many cities has changed the city stoplights to LED light bulbs which glow brightly, but use much less energy and save the municipality money.

Apparently not thought of at the time, however, is that LEDs are so efficient they don't give off enough heat to melt the snow that is blown against the red, yellow, or green lenses making it hard for motorists to tell whether to stop or proceed.

Maybe itty-bitty heaters could be installed?
