The Extra 'R'

It somehow makes sense that the shortest month of the year is also the most difficult to spell.  Really.

It is usually pronounced, 'Feb roo ary,' or even 'Feb rary,' and sometimes 'Febrary.'

So it is a good word for spelling bees for folks of all ages, who have to stop and think about the 'extra r.'

Why is there an extra r?

As our friends and neighbors still dealing with the aftermath of three feet of white stuff dumped on them well know... they needed the extra r for all the aggrrrrrrravation and trrrrrrouble brought about with heavy snow.

As a retired shoveler, I easily remember many times echoing Charlie Brown and Linus with a heaven-sent, aaaRRRRRRggggghhhh when the outside work piled up, the winds bit, and the temperature plunged.

Since it is already Feb 20 though, maybe the extra r is a reminder... to Relax.
