The hints are here...
...the sun's warmth getting stronger each day
...spring birds dancing on branches
...the whiff of spring that sprints past your nose.
But, spring is not here yet.
Maybe four more inches on the ground and another inch today.
Asphalt spotted with dots of partially splintered ice melt.
Car engines coughing to life as the drivers hack away their coming cold.
Boots, scarves, gloves and mittens, and warm overcoats hanging in the kitchen and the office closet.
Whipping winds that reach into your lungs to take your breath away and replace it with a mini fridge.
Yet, spring is getting close.
Garden supply stores bursting with seeds and all the tools to prepare the lawns and gardens. Brighter smiles as high school winter sports give way to spring sport practices.
And the sun, climbing higher in the sky, gently reminding us to hold on to these waning days of winter because when August comes... we'll think wistfully about the cold days of winter and the cozy comfort of slippers, long-sleeve T's, and the roar of a fireplace while holding a warm cup of Hot Chocolate topped with whipped cream.
