Winter Whiplash

It's been a couple of very strange weather days in our trip through January.

The weekend was cold, ending with snow and freezing rain Sunday afternoon changing into rain as the mercury climbed through the night on into Monday.

Tuesday started already warm (near 40) and came close to a record as rain fell more or less steadily all day.

Then the bottom fell out of the thermometer - bringing the likelihood of rain changing into snow and forecasts of six inches or more on the ground by the time Thursday rolls around.

That, my friends, is winter whiplash.  So hold on tight and put the spring jacket back in the closet.

The rain doesn't carry with it nearly the same spirit as a gentle, or even, hard falling snow.  Snow is better to replenish groundwater supplies and is much nicer to look at than browned over grass.

There is an old saying, 'if you don't like the weather - wait a minute,' and that certainly seems to be the case this week.

Here's hoping for some good ol' fashioned snow today - bring it on!
