It isn't a real surprise to learn some of the covered bridges are close to each other.  There are, after all, 31 bridges still standing in Parke County.

But when the leaves are off the trees, it is possible from the right location to see the McAllister, Neet, and Crooks covered bridges.

James McAllister, according to the Parke County Guide, owned the Fairview Hill farm near the bridge which took his name.  He was born in 1854, so 60 when it was built.

The builder wasn't a spring chicken either.

J.A. Britton was 77 when his company built this one, but his sons did the bulk of the work.

The sweeping curve of the county road offered a nice view from a distance as we approached the still-working bridge.  It was rehabilitated in 1977.

McAllister is a another good example of a dependable bridge and point of interest in Parke County.
