2016 Packer Memos

It's another season of Green Bay Packer football.

16 games in 17 weeks will write their own story over the course of a long season.

In early September, there is excitement and lots of questions:

  • Will Jordy Nelson be healthy and regain his connection with Aaron Rodgers?
  • Can the defense reach its potential with an intriguing combination of youth and experience?
  • How good can Aaron be this year?
If you care to see how my forecast turns out, you can check it out here.   Then return for laughs or sobs as the season unfolds.

The Fearless Forecast for the 2016 Green Bay Packer season.

Game 1 - Packers 27 Jacksonville 23  Green Bay wasn't operating on all cylinders under the hot sun on the Jaguar's home field.  Lots of fans wearing Green and Gold helped and a Packer defensive hold with 16 seconds left preserved the win.

1 - 0

Game 2 - Green Bay 14  at Minnesota 17 As a visiting team the last thing you want to do is give the home crowd a gift.  I think we were just too good a guest in the Bank.  A decent defensive performance, not enough offense.

1 - 1

Game 3 - Detroit Lions 27 Green Bay 34  The Pack looked more like themselves on offense in their home opener win over Detroit.  Then it's a week off before the home-stand continues October 9.

2 - 1

Game 4 - New York Giants 16 Green Bay 23 Defense carried the day for the Packers in a strong showing against the Giants and Eli Manning, who won on their last two visits to Lambeau Field.

3 - 1

Game 5 - Dallas Cowboys 30 Green Bay 16  An ugly result and not very pretty game on the field with few exceptions.  Maybe we need the tundra to be frozen?

3 - 2

Game 6 - Chicago Bears 10 Green Bay 26  An important bounce back game gets the Pack on track.  It's more important if it propels them upward in game 7 and following.

4 - 2

Game 7 - Green Bay 32 Atlanta 33 A loss is always a loss, but there were glimmers of hope in #12's best game of the year so far.  A tip of the cap to Chicago for beating the Vikings this week to keep the Pack one game behind.

4 - 3

Game 8 - Indianapolis 32 Green Bay 26  One can only hope this is the lowest point in the season, because if it starts a trend the Packers won't be playing much in January other than game 17.  A collapse in Lambeau.

4 - 4

Game 9 - Green Bay 25 Tennessee 47  The idea was to win this game and right the ship.  Instead, the ship developed a gaping hole in the hull.

4 - 5

Game 10 - Green Bay 24  Washington 42  The first rule to get out of hole is to stop digging.  Sadly, Green Bay hasn't stopped digging yet and lose another one in ugly fashion.

4 - 6

Game 11 - Green Bay 27 Philadelphia 13  The first real "complete" game of the season, as the Pack gets a "must win" game in the W column.

5 - 6

Game 12 - Houston 13 Green Bay 21 A second win at home over a division leader.  A needed win to stay alive in the playoff hunt.

6 - 6

Game 13 - Seattle 10 Green Bay 38   Three in a row.  This one over one of the best teams in the NFL and a dominating win from all three areas of the Pack.  Arrow is pointing up!

7 - 6

Game 14 Green Bay 30 Chicago 27  The streak is four and for the first time since the 1930s, Green Bay has evened the all-time series with the Bears.  Next up, Minnesota.

8 - 6

Game 15 Minnesota  25 Green Bay 38  It's now five in a row and an opportunity to win the NFC North Division title Sunday night in the Motor City.  It's on to Detroit.

9 - 6

Week 16 Detroit 24 Green Bay 31 Each of the last six games has been a virtual play-off contest, so it seems right the Packers found a way to reach the real deal with a convincing and satisfying road win over the Lions.  The Giants come to town for the Wildcard round.
