Biking to Bucky, Part 5

My fifth ride to Bucky was very specific - find and shoot the elusive Golden Bucky.

Just where he might be is solved via clues provided on the Buckys on Parade Twitter.

I had the clue I was looking for, so I rode to work that morning with a plan to find Bucky after I wrapping up my day.  The word was Bucky was with his own kind and looking for fun.

Late afternoon, I got on the bike and headed southeast where I was confident I would find him.  With just one Badger in my sights, this ride was shorter than the last one, only 20 miles by the time I finished my ride.

You won't see Golden Bucky in this space, but he is worth the wait.

Here are more faces of Buckingham U. Badger:  69, 74, 75, 76

Bucky in Bearadise - #69 - Artist: FAST Corporation

If you live anywhere near Madison, Wisconsin you have heard of Goodman's Jewelers.  Established under the ownership of brothers Robert and Irwin Goodman in 1933 it remains one of State Street's iconic businesses.

It was a success and so were the Goodman Brothers.  They gave to their adopted hometown in many ways including a significant gift to build Madison's first community swimming pool.  Their gift required groundbreaking in 2005.  It opened in 2006 named in their honor.

That summer paradise is great place to station Bucky, on Olin Avenue near Lake Mendota just off a bike path.  It looks like Bucky is ready if needed.

Pieces of Wisconsin - #74
Artist: Anna Raskopf

This Bucky should feel at home near relatives who get around on 4 feet at the Vilas Park Zoo.  While on display, he is getting nearly as much attention as the nearby Giraffe and Lion.

Wisconsin sign is

Pieces of Wisconsin is a great description.  Birds, snowflakes, lakes, hot air balloons, the Packers, and wildlife are all part of this piece of art incorporating the many things which make the Badger state a great place to live or visit.

There is so much to see, it's amazing to see all the vignettes from around the state.

Butterflies, an Owl, and kites are on his face.  Instruments and fish on his back.

It's a beautiful work of art and all those pieces of Wisconsin create a wonderful puzzle held together across the state in part by the institution Bucky represents.  On Wisconsin!

All Hands on Bucky - #75 - Artist Ann Pahnke

The 2300 block of South Park Street is a quiet, but important bit of real estate in Madison.  Home to the University's Space Place it chronicles the school's connections to astronomical research.

There is a library, a donut shop, and several social agencies to help folks back on their feet.

Until September it is also home to All Hands on Bucky.  Artist Ann Pahnke captures the idea of little children reaching up and out to the cuddly mascot and the opportunities the school offers when people come together.

Bio Tech Bucky - #76 - Artist Christy Grace

One of Fitchburg's two Buckys is surrounded by several Bio-tech companies.

In Bucky's hand (lower right of photo) is what looks like a bubbling test tube and strands of D.N.A. and cells across his lab jacket.

Promega, one of the largest firms in Fitchburg, works with Cell Biology, DNA analysis, and Molecular Diagnostics.  It recently announced plans to expand its operation on Madison's south side.

High tech intersects agriculture in Fitchburg - you may even notice in the photo a cow sculpture standing a half-block west of Bucky.

With this blog there have been 21 appearances by Bucky; catch up here and come back Monday for more Buckys on Parade.
