My Week That Was - Mar 31

My week, and probably the last seven days for most people, began with "The March for Our Lives."

Judging from the crowded streets in Madison as well as Washington, D.C. and dozens (at least) of other cities around the country it galvanized students and adults from all corners of the map.

It is reasonable to have different opinions on how to solve the tragic school shootings.  It is also fair to assume no reasonable person is in favor of school shootings.  What we are doing and have been doing isn't working.

Lawmakers seem reluctant or unable to have a serious conversation on the subject, despite the fact polls indicate gun owners are not opposed to regulating ownership of at least some types of weapons.

Yet at the political level it is a zero sum game.  The demonstrations hopefully spark a wider conversation and lead the country to a spot where the goal is a solution not victory.

We have a local election next week.  Local races will choose a mayor, alders, and judge.  The state will elect a Supreme Court Justice and decide the future for State Treasurer.

I've studied the issues and positions of the candidates and am ready to vote.

It's Holy Week.  Tomorrow is Easter - a week of reflection, sadness, and joy wrapped in triumph in the morning.

The end of my week includes the start of baseball and the end of college basketball.

That was my week - a mismatch of thoughts, happenings, and headlines that caught my attention.
