"If you build it, they will come."

So said the mysterious voice from the corn field to Ray Kinsella as he eventually connected the dots and built a baseball field.

The same can be said for lighthouses.

According to the Lighthouse Friends page, a dream of living in a Lighthouse was the motivation for Brena and Nava Kevich.

They built one in 1981.

If they leave the light on for you...
you will know!   (dwm)
It stands 55 feet high, nothing special for a lighthouse.  However, it is on a bluff above Lake Michigan, putting the light 163 feet above the waves.  It is the second highest on the Great Lakes (Boyer Bluff).

As we searched for this lakeside lamp, we discovered it wasn't easy.  Driving north, trees obscured our view and we drove right past.  In fact, I rode my bike on this very road a few years earlier - I never noticed it.
It is visible from the water and from the
end of the driveway.  (dwm)

When we turned around to retrace our steps, it easy to spot right off a driveway.

It's even easier to spot from the water.  The light is certified as a Class II Private Aid to Navigation.

The Friends site indicates the light is on its second owner, who moved in more than 20 years ago.

I grew up in a house with a turret.  If you squinted and looked at it just right, a turret might look like a light tower.

It's a private light on private land, so the country road was my only viewpoint.  As we drove away, I looked back.  This time I noticed the lantern peaking over the trees.

Once upon a time, this same area was a supply port for lumber when steamboats needed the wood for fuel.  By the time efforts were underway for a lighthouse of their own the need was gone.

No light was built, until a couple with a dream made it their mission.  Since then, lighthouse collectors most definitely come.
