FORE! Let's golf

Me taking a shot at Pro Golf
12/30/2017
It was in the single digits and there was a breeze blowing out of the north.  Which made it an almost perfect day to... golf?

Well, not golf exactly, but Top Golf.

Top Golf is a golf range, but it is much more than a place to hit a bucket of balls.

Luck for us, you don't have to be a great golfer, or golfer at all, to enjoy the experience.

And even in January it is popular.

We waited an hour to get our climate controlled bay; which was fine with us, since we could get a table in the bar and grill to enjoy lunch.

There are more than 100 bays where you can take some shots.  You wave your club over the panel (lower right of photo) and out pops a ball on to the artificial grass tee box.

In your bay a big table surrounded on two sides by a large outdoor couch.  A heated couch.  After each shot, I retreated back to the seat where I could warm up.

A server comes around to take drink and food orders.  A hot chocolate for me, thank you.

I'm not sure how warm the seat cushions were, but they felt great.  Heaters above the bay sent waves of warmth on us.

If it had been even 25 degrees during our visit, it would have felt perfect.  Since it was 20 degrees colder, we didn't relax between shots as long as we might on a warmer day.

Notice the golfer at right, nice shot!

There are Top Golf locations in 23 states and 4 foreign countries.  I figured the Fishers, Indiana spot would be my closest location, but it turns out there are a couple in the Chicago area and soon to be another near Minneapolis.

The food was excellent and there are private rooms, which makes Top Golf a great place for a party, family outing, or corporate meeting.  I'm sure the man in charge of the insurance agency I was part of 17 years ago would love it.

If you get a chance, give it a try, even if it is very - very cold outside.
