Game 1 - WIN over Seattle

A slobber-knocker.

An old football term which paints a picture of yesterday's game between Green Bay and Seattle.

It was tough and hard-earned 17 - 9 win over the Seahawks by the Pack.  Who knows, this win could be the deciding factor into who hosts a playoff game between these two teams.

Lots of good stuff on the grass.  First, the Packer defense deserves a collective game ball and applause for a job well done.

From the opening snap, the defensive line - led by Mike Daniels - was slithering through the Seattle line and making things tough for the Seahawk and former Wisconsin quarterback, Russell Wilson.

Wilson was only sacked three times, but was harassed a lot more - hassles which took a toll over the course of a game.

The two teams pushed each other up and down the field through the first half before the visitors put a few plays together and managed a field goal before intermission.

The Packer defense stayed tough after the break.  Daniels had a sack and then a strip-sack with the ball recovered by linebacker Kyler Fackrell at the Seattle five yard line.  Ty Montgomery punched it in one play later and the Pack was on top, 7 - 3.

The Seattle defense is one of the top units in the league.  It's been that way for years and they made things difficult for Aaron Rodgers again, sacking him 4 times and racking up quite a few hits.

Rodgers is a master at drawing defenders across the line of scrimmage early and did it again, this time resulting in a Jordy Nelson touchdown catch.

From my seat - I was thrilled to see how Green Bay's defense played throughout the game.  It wasn't perfect; but the level of effort and relatively few missed plays is a hopeful sign of improvement.

The Packer offense took a while to learn how to move the ball against the Seahawks.  The line, missing an injured Bryan Bulaga, had some leaks up front.  Hopefully Bulaga returns next week, but to my amateur eyes I thought fill-in Kyle Murphy did O.K. and is only going to get better.

The next game is Sunday night in Atlanta as the Falcons open their new stadium.  It will be a difficult game - probably be a shoot out and another nail biter.

1 - 0.  Go Pack, Go!
