Hearty Start to the Day

Blueberry-Oat Pancakes

My first visit to the Crema Cafe was in late 2013.

Journeys back across town to enjoy the cozy neighborhood diner atmosphere have happened several times since, but it was too long between visits.

Saturday's trip delivered the message to 'Come back soon,' loud and clear.

The cold and sunny start to the day created a hankering for a solid and filling meal.

A small swimming pool of hot chocolate made with real milk was a great start.

Three perfect oatmeal pancakes with blueberries mixed into the batter were a perfect combination of flavor and texture.

From the first forkful to the last, each bite had substance.

The flavors played across the tongue with bursts of sweet from the berries, syrup, and powdered sugar with the full grain, stick-to-your-ribs heartiness necessary for a busy morning.

Every visit to the Crema Cafe starts with a short stand in line as you review the menu and decide what sounds best for this visit.

A friendly server takes the order and gives you a little stand with your number to place on your table.  Soon, a gentle call alerts you when your drink is ready and soon after a server delivers the plate from the kitchen.

Most tables look like the ones we all used in the homes where we grew up and the bright plates and cups add to a home-like ambiance.

It's a popular place, bustling with regulars.  Grab a spot in line then find a spot of your own in the Crema Cafe.
