Buck & Badger

We lived in north Wisconsin for many years, and there is something about living 'up nort,' you can't find in the southern part of the state.

And then we walked into Buck & Badger, 115 State Street, Madison, Wisconsin.

It's on the most famous street in the capital city, yet it evokes quieter places in the Northwoods.

Wood floors, wood covered walls, and a large stone fireplace re-creates friendly spots where everyone really does know your name.

Beside a nice selection of adult beverages, there's high quality entrees and sandwiches on the menu. It works well for guests to the nearby Overture Center whether they're on their way to a show or on their way home.

I went with the Sweet Potato Encrusted Chicken Sandwich.

Breaded with Sweet Potato Chips, deep fried, and topped with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and chipotle mayo on sourdough bread.

It has a distinctive flavor.  The sandwich looked a bit like a pork tenderloin sandwich from a drive-in.  The toasted bread set it off nicely.

The side of onion rings were perfect.

There's more on the menu and more reasons to go back - whether or not there's tickets to the theater.
