More Like It

While the Packer's first half offensive performance yesterday was a thing of beauty on their way to a 34 - 27 victory over the Detroit Lions; let's say there's plenty of mistakes to correct before the next game.

Their next games is 13 days away since they get the earliest possible bye week on October's first weekend.  Which leaves 13 games in a row from October 8 to the first weekend in 2017.

There were more walking wounded members of Green Bay's team on the sidelines as the game wore on, and 13 first or second year players made a sizable impact on the game for both good and bad.

Outside linebacker Clay Matthews had the week off due to injuries.  So were defensive tackle LeTroy Guion, linebacker Datone Jones, and veteran safety Morgan Burnett - four crucial members of the defense.  Sam Shields missed a second game, and one prays for him a full recovery from his 4th NFL concussion.  While it would be nice to get him back on the field (he's our top corner-back), frankly, he needs to get plenty of medical advice before deciding what to do next.

Coach McCarthy seemed to change - up this play calling as Aaron Rodgers quickly led the team down the field for an opening score and 7 - 0 lead.  Jordy Nelson scored two touchdowns and Aaron threw 4 TD's in the first half.

The gray cloud behind the gleaming line of silver was the tiny 3 point field goal being the only score in the second half.  Since they were ahead 31 - 10 at halftime, those 3 points were important and shaped the strategy at game's end for the Lions.

A win's a win.  The solid win backs some nervous nellies in PackerNation off the ledge.  One hopes the team's self-scout finds some more areas for improvement and the week off helps the wounded heal and come back poised, refreshed and ready to play.

Best of all, Green Bay is 2 - 1.  After the week off, they play their next 3 games in Lambeau.  Next up, the New York Giants October 9.

Go Pack, Go!
