The Barn

December 23, 2018 - The Barn Restaurant was destroyed by fire.  Follow the link to a story by the Wisconsin State Journal.

Just north of Devil's Lake State Park off county road 123 on the way to Baraboo is the barn Restaurant.

Their sign reads, "Great Beer - Better Food."

We stopped in for lunch Saturday to enjoy the surroundings of the historic barn turned eating spot.

The main floor includes a bar and dining room with a waiting room in the space where cows were milked and cared for years ago.

A spacious deck offers dining al fresco.

The rough hewn rocks pulled from the land a hundred or more years ago make the foundation and solid beams create the ceiling and support structure for the large and beautiful re-purposed work space.

Our early afternoon stop gave us the dining room to ourselves.  It's no doubt busier in the evenings year-round and bouncing as the summer crowds descend upon Wisconsin's State Park.

A friendly server took quick care of us.  The hamburger was excellent and filling.

It's unfair to judge a place on a single burger - but for me the place was quite enjoyable and more than lived up to expectations.

Come on - a meal in America's Dairyland - inside a barn?  Sign me up.
