Stalzy's Deli

Atwood and Corry Streets in Madison is home to Stalzy's Delicatessen, inside is a cozy neighborhood deli and the kitchen that creates products offered around Mad City.

My previous bike rides have taken me past the interesting store front perched on the corner, but it wasn't until a couple of days ago before I walked inside.

Just a few steps inside the door is a counter with a glass case full of baked treats.  A large chalkboard hanging from the ceiling shows off the menu.  Coolers with cold beverages, including bottled craft beers, are steps away.

I ordered the Egg Salad on wheat bread.  Fresh eggs with mayo, lettuce, and a tomato on fresh bread.  The pickle provides some tasty crunch alongside the sandwich.  Unlike egg salad sandwiches at home, the creamy eggs and crisp lettuce made it pop.

Little shops like Stalzy's dot Madison; especially along the Williamson and Atwood Street corridor that bend around the north side of Lake Monona.  There are a variety of independently owned shops and eateries to enjoy - each with their own calling card.

You will find Stalzy's meats in other places, but the ambiance here is likely best realized during the breakfast run or with the lunch crowd.

I hope to get a seat at the counter for breakfast in the future.

And maybe next time I ride by on the Capital City Trail a short detour will land me there for lunch to try out their burgers.

Come for the atmosphere - enjoy the food - see you at Stalzy's.
