Prairie Cafe & Bakery

The Prairie Cafe and Bakery is a new place with an old soul.

It's nestled into the Middleton Hills development in Middleton, a smaller community adjacent to Madison's north and west.  The development is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright home designs and it was created as a community - there are several places to eat, grocery store, and several other retail shops to take care of all the basic needs with walking distance.

The quiet place has a slight buzz of folks in conversation and preparing for their days over good food and drink.  I had lunch there a couple weeks ago and the CBLT was delicious!  (Cheddar Bacon Lettuce Tomato)

It practically cried for a return breakfast trip and a sample of their pancakes.

The "old soul" as I would further describe it is in the taste of the pancake - a little crisp around the side and wonderful flavor and texture to the cake that made each bite as good as the one before.

It's a filling way to start the day.

Another part of the restaurant's old soul is that they don't accept plastic!  I had forgotten that and fortunately had some cash on hand.  There is an ATM nearby, but just make sure to load your checkbook or green backs in your back pocket before heading over.

While occupying the corner of a multi-use building on a corner, once you open the door you see a filled display with amazing pastries and treats and several white boards of the breakfast and lunch menu.

This place is practically just around the corner from the Pheasant Run Conservancy, so making the cafe part of your trip whether by car or bicycle is a great idea for a weekday or weekend adventure.

After a couple of pancakes or their delicious items on the lunch menu - you're going to want to work it off anyway!  Enjoy.
