Are You Ready?

This is primarily intended for my fellow guys out there (although my women readers may want to pass the link along), as a public service, I want to make sure you are aware of the following late breaking news flash: next Thursday is Valentine's Day!

My friends, this is not like one of those greeting card fabricated days on the calendar (IE; Sweetest Day) that you can shrug your shoulders and smile if you happen to forget it.

Just like her birthday, your anniversary, maybe even remembering what day it was you first met or had that first kiss - Valentine's Day is one you don't want to mess with - or forget to make it special.

I might recommend making it special will not be covered with a heart-felt gift you pick up at the convenience store.  The heart-shaped air freshener might seem like a good idea when you are holding a Slim Jim and a Mt Dew, but trust me on this, it's just not a great Valentine.

Less of a problem, but not likely to win many points would be gifts that don't require much thought: box of chocolates, bouquet of carnations, or a lottery ticket.  At all costs - same rules apply as Christmas - do not buy an appliance or tool like a vacuum cleaner!

You can take over a task; you can create a romantic atmosphere at the table for a special (even simple) meal (delivered pizza will work if you make the scenario nice enough -dressing up for it would be a good touch); you can make your own card; or surprise her with something you haven't done in years (take her dancing, put two straws in a milkshake, or buy a pack of Twizzlers to share).

If you aren't completely freaked out yet, you could really make an impression with the other women in your life with a small token of appreciation: take your mom to breakfast, pick up your daughter for a 'date,' or a gift card and a couple hours off (with pay) for that hard-working admin.

It's Valentine's - so spread some of your appreciation and your love, for those women around you who make your life better, easier, fun, and live with your 'stuff' the other 364 days of the year.
