She shoots, she scores!

Today, being back in Buckyland offered the opportunity to take in a College Women's Hockey game.

Great fun in the brand new LaBahn Arena on the University of Wisconsin Campus as the Badger Women played the Fighting Sioux from North Dakota.

The arena doubles as a practice rink for both the men and women's teams at UW and is just the right size for the highly successful Wisconsin women (4 National Titles since 2006).

The afternoon started right with lunch at the Village Bar, just down Mineral Point Road on the west side of Madison - for a delicious burger.  While I had driven by it before, it was after seeing it featured on a cable food network as part of Wisconsin's Burger Road that it became a 'must see' location.  Their wrinkle on perfecting the burger is placing an ice cube on the grill with the burger under a lid.

Yeah, I can't figure it out either; but the burger was awesome!  It's worth the trip to this quintessential neighborhood bar.

Then downtown, where seeking a parking space for the right price can be a challenge, but one was located and after a little walk around State Street (that's a whole other blog right there), we made it to LaBahn.

It's a beautiful setting, with natural light streaming in windows at the north and south of the arena, and a sheet of ice surrounded by a horseshoe of red bleachers with backs.

Buckingham U. Badger is on hand and on skates - and some die-hard Badger fans.  It's a great time and with a ticket price of just $5 - it's difficult to imagine a better deal.

It was a lot of fun, and the Badgers climbed out of 2 - 0 hole with two goals in the second period and the clincher in the third to win an exciting game against their WCHA rival.

We'll definitely be going back - can't beat a deal and a fun afternoon watching college hockey!

Go, Badgers!
